fathers day piñata

Father's Day kicked off a little differently this year. Instead of showering dad with a series of gifts, we (the rest of the family) were actually showered, literally, with a series of gifts...

Word of advice: Don't underestimate the distance in which to stand beside a piñata - or for that matter a 6+ foot tall man swinging a bat as hard as he can at a hanging object.

My dad definitely did not hold back in smacking this thing to pieces. The contents of this years "Fathers Day Piñata" flew in all sorts of directions. I'm pretty sure I took a plastic duck in the eye ball after that piñata went down. But the end resulted in mardi gras beads, mini shots of whiskey and vodka, margarita mix, cigars, bubble gum, chocolate and fake money. Now that's what I call a piñata!

2 years for U2

Have you ever bought tickets to an event 2 years in advance? It seems crazy. But that's what thousands of fans [unintentionally] did when they purchased tickets to the U2 360 Tour in 2009. The rock band had to cancel their summer tour at the last minute due to Bono's emergency back surgery. On the up side, Bono would recover within 8 weeks, but on the down side the 2010 concert would be postponed for a whole year! So, you can imagine people who'd been patiently awaiting the show would be quite disappointed. Literally two years after tickets went on sale...the biggest full size stadium performance has finally arrived!

And it was definitely worth the wait.

People waited in line at noon (8 hours before the show) to get standing room!

bdays & ball games

The sunshine finally decided to show itself towards the end of the weekend, just in time for my sister Julia's 24th birthday party at 15 Romolo. After a day of rain and fog (we had to take our daytime BBQ indoors), we were finally able to enjoy some time outside the house for the special occasion.

After partying all day and night Saturday, I woke up feeling surprisingly upbeat. Derek was glued to the couch, as is his Sunday morning ritual, while I managed to get out of the house to attend a Giants game. For such a low scoring game (2-1 Giants), it was one of the most entertaining games I've been too this year. Emily had tickets in the 3rd row behind the visitors dugout, so every time there was a left-handed batter up we'd be visible on TV in the background stuffing our faces with milano cookies, peanuts, chicken tenders and fries. Yep, that's something to be proud of.

At the bottom of the 8th inning I was lucky enough to get a foul ball hit down the 1st base line. I'll admit that I didn't actually catch the foul ball, the Rockies head coach threw it to me as I waved fanatically for it. Ha! But it's the first major league baseball I've gotten since I was a kid, so I'm stoked! I think I'll place it above the fireplace in my living room for all to see...

prankster pop

What's the most uniquely awesome way to embarrass the hell out of your child on his first day of school? Or EVERY day of school at that? Try dressing up in ridiculous costumes day after day and waving out in front of the house as the kids school bus goes by. I think Dale Price officially wins "Father of the Year" award...what a great prank! The best part is that he dressed up in 180 different outlandish costumes and managed only to spend $50 by borrowing and recycling outfits. The first day might have been horrifying for his son but by now he's surely the most popular kid in class. Talk about a great way to get the youngsters pumped up to go to school! What's dad going to wear next year?!

You can check out all the costumes on the family's blog.
